Australians love their cars. With more than 18 million registered motor vehicles on the road and almost 1.2 million new vehicles sold each year, the family car is for most people
their principal mode of transport.

As we plan Western Sydney Airport, due to open in 2026, there is much we can learn from Dallas Fort Worth Airport in Texas.

Building and maintaining Australia’s infrastructure is a responsibility shared between all three levels of government and the private sector.

One important role for the commonwealth is working with state and territory governments to co-fund significant infrastructure projects.

It makes sense for the taxpayer to build and be the first owner of such projects

The Turnbull government has announced it will build and own Western Sydney Airport, rather than Sydney Airport Group or another private sector company.

There is a clear link between housing affordability and planning new transport infrastructure. As last year's 15-Year Australian Infrastructure Plan pointed out, Australia's population is growing - as is the share of the population in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Housing supply needs to keep up with population growth in our big cities or the imbalance will drive up prices. Many things must happen before new housing comes onto the market, including zoning, planning approval, the supply of utilities like water and electricity, and the home being built.

Op-Ed: 'New airport will help the west fly'

If you live in Western Sydney, you are among the worst-served people in Australia when it comes to air travel.

The Western Australian election offers the latest evidence of a disturbing trend: Labor and the Greens do not seem to care much about the infrastructure needs of Australians who do not live in exclusive inner ring suburbs.

Infrastructure investment is vital to Australia's prosperity, and the Turnbull Government is investing in a wide range of projects all across Australia, so that people can move about our cities and regional areas more quickly and efficiently, freight can get to market, and our cities and urban areas remain among the most liveable in the world.
