Harnessing big data for transport planning

The massive amounts of Australian vehicle traffic data being collected via satellite could soon be used by the Australian, state and territory governments to plan for future investments in essential transport infrastructure.

Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher today released the terms of reference for the Data Collection and Dissemination Plan project, with a draft plan scheduled for release within six months.

Massive conveyor to help fill Hornsby Quarry

Work to fill Hornsby Quarry is a step closer with around 40 pieces of conveyor equipment making the journey from Brisbane to Hornsby to assist with the task.

Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher said once assembled, the $9 million conveyor system will transport spoil into the quarry as the first stage of transforming the site and giving public parkland back to the community.

Relief is in sight for the 85,000 motorists using the Ipswich Motorway daily, with the contract awarded for the $400 million Ipswich Motorway Upgrade from Rocklea to Darra Stage 1.

Premier of Queensland Annastacia Palaszczuk, Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports Mark Bailey and Attorney-General Senator the Hon George Brandis QC today announced the $400 million project contract had been awarded to Brisbane based Bielby Hull Albem Joint Venture.

Motorists travelling on one of Sydney’s most notoriously congested corridors are in for relief with the preferred design for the Mulgoa and Castlereagh Roads upgrade released today.

Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher said the Australian and NSW Governments are working together to progress the widening of the vital 6.5-kilometre corridor between the city of Penrith and the M4 Western Motorway to cut journey times and reduce congestion.

Work begins on Airport East project

Sydney motorists will soon benefit from a new road underpass linking General Holmes Drive, Botany Road and Wentworth Avenue, with work now underway on the $170 million Airport East project.

The Turnbull Government today announced the 22 members of the Forum on Western Sydney Airport (FOWSA), to be chaired by Professor Peter Shergold AC, Chancellor of Western Sydney University. FOWSA will be a critical community consultation mechanism in the lead up to the new Western Sydney Airport commencing operations in 2026.

The Australian and Queensland governments have today announced a roads package worth more than half a billion dollars for Queensland. 

A consortium led by SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit has been selected to deliver an important part of the Australian Government’s concept design for rail infrastructure on the Western Sydney Airport site.

The $400 million Ipswich Motorway Upgrade from Rocklea to Darra is on schedule with the tender for design and construction to be awarded in the coming months.
