Tragic events at Hornsby Mall

Yesterday's tragic events at Hornsby Mall are shocking and saddening.

It is particularly sad that innocent bystanders were injured.

Hornsby is a wonderful and peaceful community - making yesterday's events even more shocking.

Like all in our community, I wish the injured bystanders a speedy recovery both physically and mentally.

I express my sympathy to them - and to all who were caught up in this distressing event.

I also pay tribute to the courage of police officers on the scene, responding to the danger posed by a mentally disturbed man armed with a large knife.  Their quick actions yesterday, in fast moving, high pressure situation, may have prevented a larger tragedy.
