100 WASTED DAYS ON GOVERNMENT SERVICES DELIVERY

MEDIA RELEASE

100 WASTED DAYS ON GOVERNMENT SERVICES DELIVERY

One hundred days of partisan attacks on the former government won’t deliver better services for Australians, Shadow Minister for Government Services, Paul Fletcher said today.

“The first 100 days of any new government should be about outlining and acting on key priorities - but what stands out in his first 100 days is Bill Shorten’s failure as Minister to outline a positive agenda for how government services can better respond to the needs of Australians,” Mr Fletcher said.

“It’s clear Bill Shorten has been much more interested in his partisan get square through the announced Royal Commission into the former Government,” he said.

“Bill Shorten’s only other idea has been a review of Mygov he announced in opposition yet he hasn’t even bothered to start.

“The job of Government Services Minister is critical. It’s one that impacts so many Australians, often at a time when they need crucial and timely support such as when natural disasters hit.

“Anthony Albanese and Bill Shorten should be building on the work of the Coalition government which had a substantial record of reform including focus on digital transformation to put people at the centre of service delivery.

“Yet Bill Shorten has not had anything positive to say about digital service delivery. Australians would be forgiven for concluding that the Minister isn’t focussed on improving service delivery but on the public sector unions instead.

“The Albanese Labor government should focus on improving services for Australians, not politics and partisan attacks,” Mr Fletcher said.
