Dr Richard Harris to hand-over Hornsby Hospital petition to Fletcher
The Federal Member for Bradfield, Paul Fletcher will be handed the Hornsby Hospital petition on Tuesday 18 May 2010 at 2pm.
This petition contains over 30,000 signatures from concerned residents of Hornsby and surrounding areas and calls for urgent improvements to the physical facilities at the hospital.
The petition has been organised by the hospital’s medical and support staff, under the leadership of the chair of the Medical Staff Council, Dr Richard Harris.
Mr Fletcher said it was a matter for considerable regret that something as important as hospital funding had been subjected to political decision making by the NSW Labor Government.
But Mr Fletcher said the Federal Labor Government also needed to be held to account.
“We heard a lot of promises from Kevin Rudd in the lead up to the 2007 election. He said that if the state governments had not fixed the hospitals by mid 2009, he would take control, and end the blame game. He went on to say that the Federal Government would take over all hospitals.
“Well, all of those fine words have produced no action from Kevin Rudd at Hornsby Hospital.
“I will be presenting this petition to the Federal Parliament – and calling upon the NSW and Federal Labor Governments to give Hornsby Hospital, the people it serves, and the people who work in it, a fair go.”
