Joint Media Statement: ‘A+’ result for Western Sydney report card

The third report card for the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan has been released, showing significant progress has been made in delivery of the projects.

Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government Paul Fletcher said the Australian and NSW governments are delivering a multi-billion dollar roads package for one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, ahead of the planned Western Sydney Airport.

“The Turnbull Government is committed to building better roads and investing in Western Sydney’s infrastructure. This investment will create more than 4,000 jobs, reduce congestion and support the region’s growing population, which is expected to increase by one million people by 2031,” Mr Fletcher said.

“More than $23 million worth of contracts have already been awarded to businesses in western Sydney, with around 130 suppliers and contractors now working across all of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan projects.
“As of late last year, an average 325 people were employed full time under the Plan and this is expected to increase as more projects move into construction.”
NSW Minister for Roads Duncan Gay said planning or construction is now underway on all major projects funded under the Plan.
“The Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan will deliver 61 kilometres of new or upgraded road and essential transport corridors to support residential and economic growth,” Mr Gay said.
“Work is progressing on the $509 million Bringelly Road upgrade and the $70 million Werrington Arterial Road, which has moved past the half way mark and remains on track for completion at the end of the year.”

“Delivery of the $200 million Local Roads Package is well underway to provide improved connections and efficiency, with all projects funded in the first round to be finished by August.

“A further 11 critical new local road projects were approved under round two earlier this year, with projects to start construction in coming months. This funding for local infrastructure projects will also improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.”
